When I'm in Kakadu, slumming it up with the salties, Folk Implosion will be in Sydney. Would have liked to see crazy lou (western mass reprezent!) but at least I got Interpol coming in August.

So This is what We're Up Against?
I know that I can be a bit of a music junkie. I probably spend too much time listening to/downloading/collecting/critiqueing music. Its fairly established in the office that I listen to nothing anyone else does. So one of the new guys (I am now the ante-penultimate guy) asked the question, 'so what do you listen to?' The key here is to be somewhat topical. I can't say I'm down with Britney Spears or something ridiculous like that. The canned response is 'college rock' or my new one is 'american indie rock', blahblahblah.
Like who? I'm asked.
Oh, I dunno, Pavement I reply, full well knowing Pavement did not have major commercial success, but they did, I think, have some impact. Didn't they?
'I dunno them. I've never heard them'
???
Bit of a shocker that was. I mean, Pavement! The band that reminded us that college didn't have to be REM or Sonic Youth. The band that reminded you to cut your hair. Silverchair, they are not; I know this. But throw me a bone.
So that was friday at work...Friday night consisted of NBA playoffs and general boredom. They can't all be nights to remember (or forget).
Checked out the Architecture in Helsinki show on saturday night. They aren't that bad, but a little too twee for me. Sunday was a fantastic day for bike ride. Rode through the city for a few hours, then proceeded to cook with the pan and barbe.
Oh, I did tape the music video show Rage over the weekend, hosted by Sleater-Kinney
They did play some amazing videos that I have never seen before. Highlights included the Yo La Tengo video for Sugarcube. Watch that video sometime, its histerical. Flaming Lips - Waiting for a Superman was decent. Pavement's Gold Soundz was pretty wacky, with the guys dressed in santa suits shooting a bow and arrow. Odd, but entertaining. The Shins - New Slang was pretty good too, with different indie rock album covers re-enacted. I can pick out the minutemen, the replacements, slint, husker du, and thats about it. Guess I lost my indie rock cred on that one.
DSL has been activated en mi casa. now I just need a dsl modem. Full on website is coming.
